 Civics Minimize

This page is for those who believe Civics is a laboratory class. On it we will provide links to opportunities, both local and national, for students to participate in or learn about our system of government.

In Michigan, we are extremely blessed in this arena. In addition to Generation Joshua, a national Christian student organization, we have the Citizens for Traditional Values and their Student Statesmanship Institute. Both of these organizations provide training in the political process and opportunities for participation in the political process.

Generation Joshua Club of Kalamazoo - Wednesday, May 31, 2006

It is official. The Generation Joshua Club of Kalamazoo is officially sanctioned by the national office. Here is this week's club  notice.

GenJ Clubs,

First, I would like to welcome two new Clubs that just formed: the Generation Joshua of Kalamazoo Club in Mattawan, MI, and the GenJ Club of Burlington County NJ in Southampton, NJ. That's encouraging, and bit by bit we are growing. Keep up the good work.

Second, at your next club meeting, I would like you to discuss the Senate's Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act. I personally think it was a total sham and reprehensible, and the Republican Senators who voted for it should be ashamed. :) Specifically, how would its amnesty and guest worker provisions impact illegal immigration? How might this affect border security and legal immigration? Does it actually solve the illegal immigration problem, or does it actually encourage even more? I think the immigration bill will die in conference, but if the Senate bill were to remain intact, what would be the consequences for our nation? Remember to ask, if this is constitutional, what did the founders believe, and what does the Bible have to say about immigration. Finally, is there a better solution?

Third, as summer approaches, it's an excellent time to work on community outreach projects. At your next meeting, I want you to think of ways that your club might be able to help your community. Think about a Habitat for Humanity project, or painting the house of a needy family, or working at a soup kitchen.

Fourth, I want to encourage all of you to continue meeting throughout the summer. We want GenJ Clubs to be the backbone of our Student Action Teams, so we need you to definitely meet in August to begin thinking and planning for the SAT's this fall. I am hopeful that we will put 2,000 GenJers on the campaign trail this fall, and I'll need you
